Nordstrom Canada |
I nearly had a heart attack when I found out Nordstrom was coming to Canada. What made it even better was that the first ever Canadian Nordstrom was going to be opened in Calgary, a mere 2.5 hour drive from where I live. That in itself is a call to celebration! I went there for the very first time this month, and it did not disappoint. Well, prices weren't to my liking, but the physical form of the American upscale fashion was right before my eyes so I had nada complaints. Oh, it was glorious indeed.
And the cherry on top? My family lives in Calgary so I always have a legitimate reason to drive down there. Every weekend. To feast my eyes on the wonders of Nordstrom. I mean--to visit family.
Here is a brief tour of Nordstrom at Chinook Mall. I'm already reminiscing my time there this past Christmas. Sigh.
That's just me, excited to be sitting where I was sitting.
When I first entered the department store from the mall on the lower level, I was faced with cosmetics on the right hand side, and handbags and wallets on the left hand side. The beauty selection is quite vast, just as I would have expected from a debuting high end department store. They had everything from Chanel, to Kiehl's, to Bobbi Brown, and Lancome. As well, there was an area just for cologne and perfume where I found my love for Jo Malone (which I got mini samples of everything). Imagine Sephora, but times ten. There you have it.
This is the Men's wear selection. I don't know much about Men's wear, so I'll leave it at that. Although I will note that there was a huge reduction on scarves and hats, be it cotton, wool, or 100% fine cashmere.
Tada! Women's wear! Where I spent nearly an hour in after taking the escalator up from Men's wear! There wasn't a whole lot on sale, but it was enough to satisfy those looking for something decent to take home for the holidays. Burberry had a mini sale, which I took advantage of without hesitation. I saw brands ranging from Kate Spade, Ted Baker, Columbia, North Face, Halogen, Free People, rag & bone, and much, much more. Fashion paradise, what can I say! The upper level was mainly divided into high end couture wear on one side, and casual on the other. Both just as heavenly as the other.
And then shoes galore! This picture does not do it any justice, but then again, none of these pictures really do; I felt like a complete tourist snapping away with my camera. There were clearance racks in the middle of the area separated by sizes. But even on sale, some shoes were well over a few hundred dollars. I saw myself some luxurious Jimmy Choos for over $1000, and scared the heck out of myself, haha. I couldn't bear leaving that place without something, so I'll post below what I indulged in.
And finally, the handbags. Michael Kors, Marc by Marc Jacobs, Tory Burch, Kate Spade, you name it. It was all there. Everything was displayed so beautifully I had to run my fingers over every single bag. The appeal was so strong I was basically magnetized to the handbags. I walked around the area once, and then a second time, and a third. I'm pretty sure I went upstairs for an hour, and then came back and did another few rounds with the bags. Kill me now. Sales wise, there wasn't anything really.
I caved and bought this 100% cashmere long sleeve sweater from Burberry. I knew I had to buy it the second I touched it and then dangerously tried it on in the fairly extravagant fitting room (which I forgot to take a picture of, sadly). I say dangerously because if I hadn't tried it on, maybe my desire to purchase it would have been a 90% instead of the final 120%. A sucker for compliments, the sales lady did a splendid job selling it to me, not that she really needed to.
This is a Ted Baker dress that I immediately knew I had to have (it's a funny pattern... I seem to know exactly what I need to have all the dang time). It's called the Freeya dress, a black lace top, full satin skirt dress. The picture isn't at all good, but the stitching of the floral pattern is gold on the black lace. Very pretty, super sophisticated. I'm not exactly sure when to wear this gorgeous dress, but give me time and I might just wear it to walk my dog in a couple of days.
I was torn between purchasing the Burberry sweater or the Ted Baker dress, but in the end, I simply couldn't part with either so I bought both. Although, there was a reason why I needed to buy the dress.
And this is the reason why. Well, in retrospect, I actually needed a pair of shoes to go with the dress, but when I saw this Kate Spade ankle booty, I figured I needed a nice dress to go with it. It was the bow. I blame the bow. And the soft leather. I also blame that. It's Kate Spade. She knows exactly what she's doing! What is this witchery?!
So there it is, my quick and brief tour of the first Nordstrom in Canada. Let me tell you that if it looks remotely nice in pictures, it's a hundred times better in person. This is probably nothing new for those in the States, but for us here in Canada, devoid of anything pretty, this is a heck of a lot. I know where I'll be headed now when I visit Calgary--not my grandma's house, that's for sure.
Just kidding. I love my grandma very dearly and she's the reason why I go to Calgary in the first place.
Or is it?
